Try Things Out

For most of what I offer, experience is the most helpful way to get a sense of what will best serve your needs (as opposed to a paragraph where I explain what you might experience....). In that spirit, here are some free videos that will guide you through both sound and visual arts experiences. For the visual art videos, you will need to gather a few supplies, which are listed below.

Sound

Sound Journey

To prepare for a sound journey, please find a space where you feel comfortable and where you will be uninterrupted for the duration of the video. It would be ideal if you had a space where you could lie or sit comfortably near an open space where you could freely move (like enough space for dancing or yoga). Most bedrooms meet these needs. Pillows, a blanket, a blindfold, tissues and drinking water are also good. You will need to have the device on which you play the sound journey paired to a good set of earbuds, headphones, or a high-quality speaker.

Visual Arts

Geometry Mandala

Here are the supplies you will use for this experience:

  • Something to protect the table you are working at (like hardboard, smooth particle board) or a work surface you don’t mind accidentally denting with your compass.
  • Compass
  • 400 grit sand paper
  • Ruler
  • Sharp pencil
  • Eraser
  • 12 sheets copy paper
  • 1 sheet of high quality art paper (Bristol vellum, 100 lb. paper is nice)
  • Something to color with: I enjoy colored pencils or watercolor pencils and a fine brush

Rainbow Painting

For this experience you will need:

  • Red, yellow and blue paint. I will be using tempera. You may use any paint you like.
  • A paint brush or two. I will use one rounded brush (a filbert)  and one flat/rectangular brush(a hake brush). Any brush works!
  • A paint palette. Art stores have them. I use an ice cube tray. A plate, baking pan or muffin tin works too.
  • A jar of water to rinse brush
  • 10 sheets of Inexpensive paper, like copy paper
  • A sheet of high quality painting or multi-media paper
  • An old dish towel, hand towel, or a few paper towels
  • A paint smock (I wear one of my old favorite dresses) or clothes you don’t mind staining
  • A garbage bag and old towel to protect whatever surface you are working on
